You will see from pictures that there are many types of septic tanks. So, when you move into a property which has a septic tank, it is a good idea to find out what type you have.

We regularly install and maintain septic tanks right across the Hunter region, so are well placed to identify your model, and to carry out checks that the septic tank system is working properly. We can even carry out a Percolation Test which shows whether the ground is suitable to accommodate a soakaway.

Housekeeping tip: Remember that the ONLY items which should go down the loo are the three Ps: pee, poo and paper. Nothing else. Never dispose of sanitary products (nappies, towels, wipes) into a septic tank. And avoid any food waste such as fat, oil and grease. (In fact that advice holds true for the mains sewerage system too.) Septic tanks are particularly sensitive to chemicals and cleaning products which may upset the natural bacteria system which digests the waste, so you will need to refer to specific manufacturer’s advice for your septic tank type.
